#DiscoverEE: The need for equity in energy efficiency programs

Newcomers to Canada and members of multi-lingual and multi-cultural communities face significant barriers accessing information and programming for energy efficiency.

The EmpowerMe program (empowerme.ca) provides in-language support to these communities to take advantage of EE programs and delivers culturally appropriate workshops and home-visits that teach households how their behaviours relate to energy use. Yasmin Abraham provides an overview of the program and why the need for in-language support is so high in Canada as it relates to Canadian demographics and levels of understanding in our multi-cultural communities.
