50001 Certified Professional

The 50001 Certified Professional course is designed for facility personnel, consulting professionals, auditors, and service providers with technical experience in industrial and commercial energy systems and energy efficiency practices.

Becoming a 50001 Certified Professional enables participants to provide critical technical assistance for industrial and commercial facilities whose managers want to implement an energy management system in compliance with the ISO 50001 standard. 

After completing this four-day course, participants have the skills, knowledge, and performance capability to assist and evaluate businesses in meeting ISO 50001 requirements. In particular, 50001 Certified Professionals: 

• Work with organizations to establish and/or maintain an energy management system (EnMS) that meets ISO 50001 requirements. 
• Work with organizations to integrate ISO 50001 into existing management systems. 

• Use core EnMS concepts.
• Provide technical assistance to industrial and commercial facility operators that want to become ISO 50001 certified.
• Modify current design and procurement procedures to meet ISO 50001 requirements.
• Review internal audit procedures based on ISO 50001.
• Evaluate the implementation and effectiveness of organizations’ corrective and preventive action system.

• Individuals working with organizations to establish and/or maintain an EnMS that meets ISO 50001 requirements
• Individuals working with organizations to integrate ISO 50001 into existing management systems

This course does not require any prior technical experience.

However, participants who wish to take the CP 50001 certification exam, administered by the Association of Energy Engineers (AEE), must have a technical background, as certain topics assessed are not covered in the course.

Upon completing this course, participants have the expertise to assist organizations in implementing best practices in energy management based on ISO 50001. Additionally, they are able to assist in establishing energy performance levels and baselines, thus enabling them to track facility performance improvements and integrate effective metrics.

The 50001 certification is recognized and required by certain entitities:

• Hydro-Québec now includes recognized competency requirements in its energy management system (EnMS) program, notably requiring the 50001 Certified Professional Certification for professionals responsible for EnMS implementation reports.
