With distributed energy resources (DERs), demand flexibility programs, and third-party integrations expanding fast, utilities are operating in a more dynamic environment than ever before. But with that flexibility comes a new kind of risk; one that may not show up until it’s already in motion.This interactive workshop places you into the middle of it.

Through a guided, scenario-based experience, you’ll step inside RiverCity Utilities, a fictional utility navigating the challenges of a decentralized grid. As the situation unfolds, you will explore where cyber risks show up across DERs and customer programs, how quickly they can escalate, and what decisions matter most when the pressure is on.

Along the way, we’ll break down the “why it matters” behind cybersecurity (without getting technical or overly complex) so you can connect the dots between systems, risk, and real-world impact.

This session is designed for energy professionals who don’t sit in cybersecurity roles but are increasingly a part of the conversation. You’ll leave with a clearer understanding of where cybersecurity intersects with your work and the confidence to engage in those conversations effectively.

You’ll leave this session able to:
• Identify where cybersecurity risks are most likely to occur across DERs, demand flexibility programs, and connected grid technologies.
• Explain how cyber incidents can impact utility operations, customer experience, and market participation.
• Describe key processes and activities that occur during a cyber event at a high level.
• Recognize decision points where non-cyber leaders play a role in response and risk management.
