DiscoverEE Webinar: Canada’s Retrofit Mission

May 8 @ 12:00 pm - 12:45 pm EDT

Retrofitting Canada’s existing buildings is essential to solving the housing crisis and boosting economic growth — it’s more cost-effective than rebuilding and supports climate goals.

A coordinated retrofit mission would scale up the workforce, supply chains, and technologies needed for both retrofits and new, climate-resilient housing, while creating good jobs across the country. It means investing in skilled trades, using Canadian-made components, and setting clear performance rules so households and businesses can plan ahead. It transforms the patchwork of grants and pilots into a coordinated effort — one that unlocks affordability, creates good jobs, and drives innovation.

Join Efficiency Canada’s Betsy Agar and ReCover’s Brittany Davidson for a deep dive into our Retrofit Mission work – where we are, where we want to be, and what we need to do to get there.

Speakers:

Betsy Agar
Director of Buildings Policy, Efficiency Canada

Betsy Agar is the Director of Building Policy at Efficiency Canada. She has worked in building energy efficiency for over 25 years. Drawing on her technical background as a building science engineer, she has spent the last decade+ advocating for the building decarbonization and climate adaptation. Her work involves research, engagement, and knowledge mobilization to drive systemic changes through policy and regulatory reform and market transformation.

She leads Efficiency Canada’s Retrofit Mission and is currently a member of the City of Toronto Building Emissions Advisory Committee, the City of Vancouver’s Technical Advisory Committee for Large Existing Buildings, the ReCover Initiative strategic planning committee, the Building Decarbonization Alliance Policy Working Group, and Energy Conference Network’s Advisory Board.

She holds a Master of Applied Science degree from McMaster University and is licensed as a Professional Engineer in Ontario. Born and raised in Ontario, she moved her family to North Vancouver nearly 15 years ago and now calls both provinces home. Betsy is grateful for the privilege of living, working and playing on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples.
