Introduction to Heat Pumps

Online

Heat pumps are a powerful tool in the push for energy-efficient and climate-friendly buildings. Whether you’re working in multifamily housing or commercial spaces, heat pumps offer a smart way to heat and cool while also providing domestic hot water. This course provides a practical look at how heat pump technology has evolved—and how it’s being used successfully today. You’ll explore system components, performance, and design considerations, along with real-world examples and lessons learned from the field. We’ll also dive into the broader benefits of heat pumps, including their role in decarbonization, boosting energy efficiency, and supporting grid stability. Who Should Attend:This session is a great fit for engineers, architects, designers, building owners and managers, and maintenance professionals. If you’re looking to deepen your understanding of heat pumps and their impact, you’ll find this course useful. You’ll Leave This Session Able To: Describe the history and growing versatility of heat pumps in building systems Identify key components and system configurations in multifamily and commercial settings Evaluate the efficiency, grid, and decarbonization benefits of heat pumps Understand relevant codes, policies, and the current market landscape Additional continuing education credits:This course qualifies for the following CEUs: BPI: 4 CEUs NATE: 4 CEHs BOC: […]

CSA F280 Whole-house Design Heat Loss and Gain Calculations: Understanding and Implementing Efficient Design Principles

Zoom

REAs CAN STEP INTO THE HEAT PUMP GAME! REAs delivering the EnerGuide Rating System (ERS) and other HOT2000 modelers will gain the ability to perform precise whole-house heat loss and gain calculations in the retrofit market. By using verified software, EAs and other HOT2000 modelers can size heating and cooling equipment primarily based on data collected during home energy evaluations, with minimal additional F280-compliant information as needed. Upon completing this course, EAs and other HOT2000 modelers will be able to offer this service to homeowners and contractors, providing essential calculations that HVAC professionals can use to size heat pumps accurately. Please note: This course does not cover air distribution design and does not enable EAs and other HOT2000 modelers to select specific heat pumps or make direct sizing recommendations. Instructor and CACEA member Mark Rosen MEA, Director, Building Science Building, Knowledge Canada, will guide the group through the whole house F280 process. At the end of the course, participants will: Understand why heat loss and gain calculations are needed for existing housing. Understand important definitions and concepts used in heat loss and gain calculations. Understand the whole‐house heat loss and gain calculation principles and content. Recognize the similarities and differences between the data used for HOT2000 energy simulation and CSA F280 whole‐house […]

Decarbonization and Carbon Neutrality Essentials – Online event

With the industrial sector at the forefront of Canada’s energy transformation, the need for skilled and proactive professionals has never been more urgent. To help accelerate this shift, CIET is offering an exclusive 50% discount on select training courses tailored for those working in industrial environments. These programs aim to enhance energy performance, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and increase overall efficiency. According to the International Energy Agency, achieving global climate goals requires net-zero emissions to be reached worldwide during the latter half of this century. In response, an increasing number of companies and governments have set bold targets—some as early as 2030—to reach carbon neutrality. Turning these commitments into action calls for well-informed strategies that can be applied to both buildings and industrial operations. CIET’s one-day training (Decarbonization and Carbon Neutrality Essentials) is specifically designed for professionals and decision-makers seeking a clear, practical understanding of carbon neutrality. The session explores essential terminology, real-world examples, and the range of initiatives currently underway in both the public and private sectors. Participants will come away with a better grasp of how to evaluate and implement decarbonization strategies within their own organizations.
