Advanced Building Energy Modelling

The Advanced Building Energy modelling course is focused on developing skills that energy modellers utilize in creating energy models for buildings with complex systems and using those models to conduct in-depth analyses of energy performance. This approach is now more frequently implemented for new construction projects as well as deep energy retrofits in existing buildings that need to meet the increasingly more stringent energy efficiency requirements of building codes. This course is designed for participants that completed the Building Energy Modelling Professional course or have similar knowledge. It is assumed that participants understand how building systems operate and have developed energy models in EnergyPlus for buildings with conventional systems that resulted in working energy model files. This two-day course is focused on modelling and analyzing advanced high-performance building systems using hands-on exercises and case studies. The Advance Building Energy Modelling course provides participants with the knowledge required to model high performance buildings designed to meet increasingly more stringent building code requirements.

How to Speed Up and Scale Up Building Retrofits

Virtual Event Virtual Event

It's time to make buildings more affordable and sustainable. Join Tom Grochmal, founder of Trim Tab Energy Retrofits, to explore a scalable approach to retrofitting low-rise affordable housing. Learn about a repeatable process to integrate retrofits with unit turnovers, leading to lower bills, better air, and year-round temperature control. See results from two pilot projects, showcasing technical achievements and the benefits to housing operators and tenants.

Advanced Measurement and Verification

Measurement and verification (M&V) is the process of using measurements to determine the actual energy savings generated by energy management projects at individual sites. Common M&V activities include metering, data collection and processing, transparent savings calculations, monitoring, quality assurance, and third-party report verifications. The two-day Advanced Measurement and Verification training program provides practical exercises and advanced concepts to individuals seeking to enhance their understanding of M&V. This program is a valuable complement to the theoretical knowledge acquired through common M&V certification courses and designations. Day one serves to review the primary features of M&V and concentrate on the utilization of diverse statistical tools to create M&V plans, including samples, linear regressions such as multivariable regressions, and uncertainty calculations. Day two serves to explore practical examples of International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP) options for lighting, motors and variable speed drives, compressed air systems, heat recovery systems, and commercial buildings. Participants also conduct calculations for those scenarios. Day two culminates in the development of an M&V plan.
