Power Quality for Energy Efficiency Retrofits & Renewable Power

“Keeping Your Electricity Clean as You Go Green” Energy Efficiency Retrofits & Power Quality: Energy efficiency is a popular topic for office buildings as well as both commercial and industrial facilities. Due to the major interest in saving energy, electrical professionals are frequently involved in the design, specification and/or installation of equipment that will reduce energy consumption. Typical energy efficiency projects involve the selection of motors or the use of power electronics equipment or devices which are known to cause electrical disturbances such as harmonics and can also be susceptible to power quality disturbances. This course explains the power quality concerns for two of the most popular retrofits (VFDs and LED lamps). The course explains potential problems, methods to recognize problems after installation and provides recommendations to prevent these problems. Renewable Energy & Power Quality: Many buildings have a combination of power sources including utility, renewable energy inverters, standby generators and uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). This abbreviated seminar compares these power sources from a power quality perspective and offers advice for the proper sizing of these power sources, based upon the intended loads. It demonstrates the various levels of power quality achievable for renewable energy inverters based on various filter […]

Decarbonization and Carbon Neutrality Essentials – Online event

With the industrial sector at the forefront of Canada’s energy transformation, the need for skilled and proactive professionals has never been more urgent. To help accelerate this shift, CIET is offering an exclusive 50% discount on select training courses tailored for those working in industrial environments. These programs aim to enhance energy performance, reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and increase overall efficiency. According to the International Energy Agency, achieving global climate goals requires net-zero emissions to be reached worldwide during the latter half of this century. In response, an increasing number of companies and governments have set bold targets—some as early as 2030—to reach carbon neutrality. Turning these commitments into action calls for well-informed strategies that can be applied to both buildings and industrial operations. CIET’s one-day training (Decarbonization and Carbon Neutrality Essentials) is specifically designed for professionals and decision-makers seeking a clear, practical understanding of carbon neutrality. The session explores essential terminology, real-world examples, and the range of initiatives currently underway in both the public and private sectors. Participants will come away with a better grasp of how to evaluate and implement decarbonization strategies within their own organizations.
