CSA F280 Whole-house Design Heat Loss and Gain Calculations: Understanding and Implementing Efficient Design Principles

August 12 @ 10:30 am - 5:00 pm EDT

$165.75 – $295.00

REAs CAN STEP INTO THE HEAT PUMP GAME!

REAs delivering the EnerGuide Rating System (ERS) and other HOT2000 modelers will gain the ability to perform precise whole-house heat loss and gain calculations in the retrofit market. By using verified software, EAs and other HOT2000 modelers can size heating and cooling equipment primarily based on data collected during home energy evaluations, with minimal additional F280-compliant information as needed. Upon completing this course, EAs and other HOT2000 modelers will be able to offer this service to homeowners and contractors, providing essential calculations that HVAC professionals can use to size heat pumps accurately. Please note: This course does not cover air distribution design and does not enable EAs and other HOT2000 modelers to select specific heat pumps or make direct sizing recommendations.

Instructor and CACEA member Mark Rosen MEA, Director, Building Science Building, Knowledge Canada, will guide the group through the whole house F280 process. At the end of the course, participants will:
  • Understand why heat loss and gain calculations are needed for existing housing.
  • Understand important definitions and concepts used in heat loss and gain calculations.
  • Understand the whole‐house heat loss and gain calculation principles and content.
  • Recognize the similarities and differences between the data used for HOT2000 energy simulation and CSA F280 whole‐house heat loss and gain calculations.
  • Familiarize with verified software that can use HOT2000 inputs through a case study.

This training is for Registered Energy Advisors delivering the EnerGuide Rating System and other HOT2000 modelers. REGISTRATION

CRITERIA FOR REAs:

  • A “Full” category CACEA member OR a non-CACEA member REA who completed D&E files and modeled 15 homes onsite tested under an NRCan program (ERS, EnergyStar, R2000 or NetZero – D&E; P&N) which is SO validated OR put forward by CACEA Full Member in good standing.
  • NON-MEMBER REQUIREMENTS$1 million Errors and Omissions Insurance and a signed SO confirmation letter (annually). (USE THIS LETTER ) Must upload the proof of coverage and letter to the registration form.
  • Successful participants will receive a Certificate of Completion, and listed on CACEA’s website.

CRITERIA FOR OTHER HOT2000 MODELERS:

  • 1 full year of HOT2000 modeling.
  • $1 million Errors and Omissions Insurance. Must upload the proof of coverage to the registration form.
  • Successful participants will receive a Certificate of Completion, and listed on CACEA’s website.

ADDITIONAL COURSE INFORMATION:

  • Participants will work through a case study and complete an independent exercise using the Volta SNAP tool.
  • Use a full-size monitor, preferably two. Working primarily from an iPad or laptop monitor is not ideal).
  • Ensure good connectivity and use a headset or quality external mic to reduce feedback or echoes.
  • Printing of certain course materials in advance is recommended – details will be provided upon registration.
