Efficiency Canada, with the support of NRCan, is creating a digital campaign surrounding Our Human Energy stories featuring real people in their real work environments. The series is called 'A Day in the Life' and will showcase a range of professionals from engineers to architects, contractors, trades people, Building Science academics and many more. Each feature will be a documentary-feel sizzle reel of what a typical 'Day in the Life' looks like for someone in the Energy Efficiency Sector across the country.  Using a new interactive Q&A approach, join us for our first "Day in the Life" with Fellipe Falluh as he presents A Day in the Life of a Retrofitter. Hear firsthand what it's like to work in the exciting world of retrofitting. Fellipe will take your questions on career path, credentials & experience, as well as, give you an up-close look at what it's like to start a green business in this growing sector. You will also learn how the Career Hub has been effective in connecting the sector of 436,000 Canadians and helping to bring awareness to those interested in a new or first career, all while placing emphasis on the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion.

Join Efficiency Canada's provincial policy team, Alyssa Nippard and James Gaede, for a review of provincial energy efficiency program results from 2022. In addition to reviewing national and provincial program spending and energy savings trends, Alyssa and James will also highlight recent changes to the Scorecard report process, and discuss tentative plans and timelines for 2024. As always, we welcome ideas and suggestions from the community for interesting things to track in our - now bi-annual - Scorecard report.

Sarah Riddell, Efficiency Canada’s Policy Research Associate, Clean Heat, will be discussing the recently released Advancing Canadian Appliance and Equipment Standards policy brief. The policy brief digs into what’s included in the proposed Amendment 18 to Canada’s Energy Efficiency Regulations, how the U.S. and other nations are moving on efficiency standards and offers recommendations on how Canada can lead, given appliance and equipment efficiency’s vital role in a decarbonized future.

GHGs from Canada's housing sector have been declining, albeit very slowly. Acceleration is needed. While the Greener Homes Grants program is currently slated to close applications in March, there are many voices expressing both concerns and need for the program. Kai Millyard from Green Communities Canada will explore the findings of their newest report, Retrofitting Canada’s Homes: Progress Report #1, outlining the first years of the Greener Homes Grants program - its successes, and where it should improve, along with overseas examples Canada should learn from, to make the case for its recapitalization and continued success.

Energy poverty is commonly understood to describe the situation where a household is unable to access adequate energy to maintain wellbeing at home. Because it is largely experienced behind closed doors, the diversity of experiences with energy poverty may vary from households to household. This presentation uses latest custom data from Statistics Canada Census 2021 and evidence from research to construct archetypes or ‘user profiles’ of lived experiences with energy poverty. In doing so, we will explore how energy poverty amplifies existing vulnerabilities for Canadian households and make recommendations for targeted and decisive action to mitigate impacts for the most vulnerable households.

The issue of climate change has become a pressing concern worldwide, and Canada is no exception. To combat climate change, the federal government is targeting greenhouse gas emissions reductions of 40% from 2005 levels by 2030 and net-zero by 2050. A key to meeting these ambitious targets will be retrofitting existing buildings away from fossil-fuel-powered heating equipment. Mid-Stream Energy Efficiency programs work directly with product distributors, incentivizing participants to shift their supply chain toward energy efficient alternatives. In this session, we will go over what exactly is a "Mid-Stream Program" and show how Mid-Stream programs can help you influence the wholesaler market to stock more energy efficient equipment on shelves and showrooms and increase the share of end users who opt for the more efficient option. As a case study, we will show how Enbridge’s Midstream Program in Ontario has matured into a reliable source of savings and how it can grow to do even more. We’ll also touch on some of our emerging Mid-Stream programs in the West and the U.S.
