Request for proposals: freelance bilingual copywriter

What we’re looking for

We are looking for a copywriter with experience working as a content writer, copywriter, or in a marketing role with significant bilingual writing experience. It would be ideal to have strong editorial, proofreading, and writing skills for a variety of platforms and mediums. As we have a slate of projects in the pipeline, vendors should be deft project managers, able to take on ownership and handle multiple projects simultaneously. We hope to have vendors who exhibit a passion for writing with an excellent portfolio of work.

Submission Requirements

Bidders must adhere to the following guidelines to be considered:

  • Only bidders who meet all five metrics in the evaluation section should submit a proposal.
  • If a bidder does not meet the bilingual requirements, applications at a reduced cost to allow Efficiency Canada to contract translation services may be considered.
  • Proposals must be sent in by September 16, 2022. Bidders who are interested in submitting a proposal should inform Gillian Wesley (info@efficiencycanada.org) no later than September 9, 2022.
  • Please include at least three samples and references with your proposal.
  • Proposals should not be more than three pages.
  • Please make note of the schedule in the SOW.

Budget

The total budget for these projects from September to December 2022 is $20,000 CAD. The tentative budget for projects through January until April 2023 is an additional $10,000 CAD.

Evaluation Metrics

Efficiency Canada will evaluate bidders and proposals based on the following criteria:

  1. Previous experience/past performance history
  2. Samples from previous projects or portfolio of work
  3. Projected costs
  4. Experience and technical expertise
  5. Responsiveness and answers to questions

Scope of work (SOW)

RFP: copywriting for energy efficiency advocacy and research

Project Overview:

We seek the services of a bilingual (FR/EN) copywriter to utilize their skills to mobilize people across Canada to take action towards an energy-efficient economy. The projects require writing and editing copy and transforming blog posts and reports into engaging, actionable content for social media, email and marketing campaigns, infographics, and other online and print content.

Project Goals:

  • Deliver monthly slate of writing projects per scope of work
  • Deliver three final report products per the scope of work

Scope of Work + Specific Deliverables: 

Each piece would require a full copy edit, translation, and FR/EN key message development. A few items require original writing (i.e., budget 2023, press releases). Reports are 35 – 60 pages, all other content is 1-3 pages.

September:

  • Copyediting, translation, and bilingual social media captions for: building codes landscape blog — September 30
  • Copyediting, translation, and bilingual social media captions for: municipal building codes newsletter two — September 30
  • Event copy, translation, and bilingual key messages for a municipal building codes workshop  — September 30

Estimated budget: $4,000

October:

  • Copyediting, translation, and bilingual social media captions for: industrial energy efficiency report — October 15
  • Written bilingual press release sharing the national results of the Provincial Scorecard — October 15
  • Two written bilingual press releases for our low-income work — October 15
  • Copyediting and bilingual social media captions for: Provincial Scorecard one-pagers (one per province/territory) —October 21

Estimated budget: $8,000

November:

  • Written bilingual regional press releases for: Provincial Scorecard (one per province/territory) — November 4
  • Adapt existing content into a 600-word newsletter submission — November 4
  • Copy editing, translation, key messages, and bilingual social media copy for a tenant rights report — November 20

Estimated budget: $3,000

December: 

  • Copyediting, translation, and bilingual social media captions for an end-of-year blog post — December 5
  • Written bilingual press release — December 15
  • Copyediting, translation, and bilingual social media captions for: municipal building codes newsletter three  — December 15
  • Copyediting, translation, and bilingual social media captions for: four “extended one-pagers” for the Provincial Scorecard — December 20

Estimated budget: $5,000

January:

  • Copyediting, translation, and bilingual social media captions for: 2024 net zero energy ready codes report — January 13
  • Bilingual website copy and bilingual social media captions for: 2023 budget campaign — January 13
  • Event copy, translation, and bilingual key messages for:  municipal building codes workshop — January 27

Estimated budget: $7,000

February:

  • Adapt existing content into a 600-word newsletter submission —February 9

Estimated budget: $1,000

March:

  • Copyediting, translation and bilingual social media captions for: ECCC report one (pending) — March 15

Estimated budget: $1,000

April:

  • Copyediting, translation, and bilingual social media captions for: AEB municipal building codes report  — April 21

Estimated budget: $1,000

General copywriting and editing:

Ongoing event copy, copy updates for discoveree.ca, and new writing supports that may be needed for the career guides component of Our Human Energy. To be determined at a rate-for-work-completed basis.

Evaluation metrics and criteria

  • Portfolio of work demonstrates the ability to fulfill the scope of work outlined in this RFP
  • Demonstrated ability to complete projects with accuracy and within a given timeframe
  • Total cost of project deliverables

Submission Requirements

  • Provide French and English work samples
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt copywriting for different audiences
  • Include recommendations, stats, or other content that demonstrates past success in creating engaging copy that meets project requirements
