ONLINE COURSE: Commissioning, Quality Assurance & Quality Control of Solar PV Systems

Are you interested in grid-interactive solar PV system commissioning? Join this course to learn commissioning standards, performance verification and electrical tests, maintenance and troubleshooting for PV systems, shutdown and startup procedures, and reporting and documentation.

This class is designed for electricians, technicians, engineers, solar installers, and those with a basic understanding of electrical theory and electrical terminology. It focuses on residential and commercial scale projects, typically under 1 MW. Case Studies are used to illustrate the topics of this course.

GENERAL LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to competently:

  • Assemble appropriate tools, equipment and PPE
  • Conduct visual and mechanical inspection of a solar PV system
  • Describe mechanical tests on a solar PV array
  • Conduct electrical tests on a grid-interactive solar PV system
  • Conduct Performance Verification tests for grid-interactive solar PV systems;
  • Conduct Maintenance and Troubleshooting tests for solar PV systems;
  • Conduct IV curve tracing;
  • Interpret and Prepare System Documentation.

THE COURSE TOPICS INCLUDE:

  • Grid-Interactive Solar PV System Commissioning
  • Evaluating compliance with the applicable codes and standards for the project, such as the Canadian Electrical Code;
  • Workplace safety procedures and equipment;
  • Tools and equipment used in commissioning;
  • Standards for commissioning, such as IEC 62446-1;
  • Project specific standards and specifications, including Industry best practices;
  • Commissioning procedures; and
  • Reporting and documentation.
  • Grid-Interactive Solar PV System Operation and Maintenance
  • Workplace safety procedures and equipment;
  • Shutdown and start-up procedures;
  • Tools and equipment for testing and troubleshooting
  • Performance tests;
  • Testing and trouble-shooting procedures;
  • Recording and Interpreting test data.

Participants are encouraged to have a copy of the current Canadian or Alberta Electrical Code.

CERTIFICATION:

Upon completion students will receive a Certificate of Completion from Solar Alberta.

COURSE HOURS:

Four 2-hour sessions, Tuesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. MDT.
