Sustainable Residential Buildings: How Greening our Buildings Could Create 72,000+ Construction Jobs by 2032

The issue of climate change has become a pressing concern worldwide, and Canada is no exception. To combat climate change, the federal government is targeting greenhouse gas emissions reductions of 40% from 2005 levels by 2030 and net-zero by 2050. A key to meeting these ambitious targets will be retrofitting existing buildings away from fossil-fuel-powered heating equipment. BuildForce Canada’s Building a Greener Future report estimates the labour market implications for construction from this transition over the coming decade.
